At the heart of Cedars Concrete is a story of resilience, vision and family.
Our founder, Maurice Marroun, was born on 23 December 1944. From a young age, he carried a deep sense of responsibility and determination. At just 14 years old, he began working alongside his father in Kuwait, managing construction tools while his father drove water tank trucks. This early introduction to hard work laid the foundation for a lifelong career in building and construction.
In 1964, Maurice migrated to Australia with little more than courage and ambition. He first found work at the Morris Minor car manufacturing plant, but by 1968 he was drawn back to what he knew best - construction.
With grit and determination, he launched his own formwork business, a venture that would evolve into what we know today as Cedars Concrete.
Through the 1970s, Maurice built a reputation for excellence and integrity. He worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Harry Triguboff (Managing Director of Meriton) and partnered with pioneering firms such as De Martin and Gasparini (later part of Boral). His ability to form strong relationships and deliver on his word earned Cedars Concrete the respect of clients and colleagues alike.
But Maurice’s legacy is about more than concrete. He built a home, a family and a future. Alongside his wife, he raised five children - Gloria, Gladys, Jabbour, Katrina and Joseph - instilling in them the values of hard work, loyalty and perseverance. Today, those values continue to guide Cedars Concrete.
Maurice believed that every project was more than just formwork and foundations; it was about building opportunities, communities and trust. His vision lives on through the generations that follow - his children and grandchildren - who carry forward his name, his principles and his passion for building.
Cedars Concrete is proud to stand on the strong foundation laid by Maurice. His journey from a determined teenager in Kuwait to a pioneering business owner in Australia is a testament to what can be achieved with resilience, faith and family.
